Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a risk factor for many diseases. Nutritional methods are considered as major tools in lifestyle modification for lowering blood pressure. The present study was conducted to determine the level of dietary adherence in hypertensive patients.

Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed in 2015, on hypertensive patients who were referred to Heart Clinic of Sayyad Shirazi Hospital in Gorgan. Overall, 200 patients (62% female) were selected by purposive sampling. The dietary adherence was evaluated in five following groups of salt-, fat-, fruit-, vegetables- -and dairies-intake through daily completion of data collection form within two weeks. This form was designed by the researchers and its validity and reliability were tested in a pilot study. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney, Chi-square, and logistic regression analysis tests.

Results: The mean and standard deviation (SD) of age of patients was 48.6±7.51 years. Mean and SD of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients were 152.31±9.1 and 93.53±2.87 mmHg, respectively. The results showed that 7% of patients had complete dietary adherence, 66.5% had poor adherence, and rest of the subjects had average dietary adherence. The highest level of dietary adherence was observed in the case of diaries intake (43.5%) and the lowest was related to fruit intake (3.5%).

Conclusion: Given the importance of dietary adherence in controlling hypertension and lack of dietary adherence in hypertensive patients, it is recommended to conduct further studies to identify factors affecting dietary adherence and implement necessary interventions to improve this issue in patients.

Abstract

Background: Pesticides are chemical compounds which are used to fight against and to control plant and animal pests as vectors of diseases. In view of being exposed to pesticides, farmers are at high risk of occupational diseases. In this regard, the predictability of Health Belief Model (HBM) has been confirmed for the studies in promoting health behaviors. The aim of the study was to investigate the determinants of health behaviors of farmers on poisoning with pesticides in Golestan province based on HBM.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 294 farmers covered under Health centers in Azadshahr, Golestan province in 2015. A multi-stage sampling method was used. Data was collected through HBM questionnaire and analyzed using Pearson and Spearman rank correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and linear regression model in SPSS-16. The P-value was considered significant as <0.05.
Results: The mean age of participants was 46.12±11.45 years (ranged from 17 to 75). The majority of participants was under diploma (60.1%) and used television educational programs (76.9%) as main source of information and chemical dealers (68.4%) as main cues to action. There was a significant correlation between educational status and the amount of pesticide (p=0.024). In final, perceived barriers was the variable for predicting the healthy behavior of farmers (β= 0.208, p=0.004).
Conclusions: The results presented in this study recommend that since the majority of farmers were awarded high school diploma, designing and developing effective interventions in order to promote knowledge and perceived self-efficacy should be considered.

Abstract

Background: Journals are regarded as the most important media for transferring knowledge and research results, accordingly their promotion is conditioned by continuous evaluation and improvement of performance. The present study aimed to determine the status, citation analysis, and altmetric indices of journals published by Golestan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted by a descriptive approach with scientometric and citation analysis methods in 2019. The statistical population consisted of 5 journals of Golestan University of Medical Sciences. Data collection tool was a researcher-made checklist consisting of 28. Altmetric indices of journals were also evaluated. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics; and the results were presented in diagrams and tables.
Results: All the studied journals had all "publication requirements. Only one journal had the requirement, "at least half of editorial board should be outside of the publication". Moreover, 37 percent of 105 editorial board members in the under examined journals had extra-organizational affiliation and only 8 percent were from abroad. The articles of "Journal of Gorgan University of Medical Sciences " was the most-cited article regarding citation bases.
Conclusions: Journals of Golestan University of Medical Sciences need to revise their structures, especially for editorial board members namely being international, having an organizational affiliation outside the university, as well as the presence of editorial board members with further research activity and background.
